Intro

N, Mazăre, and Solis are three of the most developed characters out of the teeming hordes in their world. They, and their stories, are forever works in progress - some of these illustrations are no longer canonical, but show how they have developed. I have poured many hours of love and work into them, so I hope you enjoy.

I’m also starting to share my short fiction, starting with The Crow’s Nest.

N

Life in Sumer

N was born in early Sumer to a poor family of weavers and tailors. When she was seven she was kicked out of her home because she could not make her family money, so she lived by stealing until she was 11. When she was 11 she was brought in by a spirit who gave her food and coin, who looked very otherworldly, so N assumed it was a god. N lived with it until she was 25, and made money by stealing all the wealth of the upper class under the name Nergalit, a feminized version of the god of death. She was famous in the city for never leaving a trace. When she was 25 the spirit forced her to co-inhabit her body, giving N immortality, the ability to create or destroy items, inhuman strength and speed, and the ability to do anything after only having seen it once. With these new powers she soon grew bored of her city-state, and even all of Sumer, and left to see the world. When she returned everyone she knew was either dead or dying of old age, so what little attachment she had left to Sumer was quickly fading. Discouraged, she found a massive cavern that she could inhabit, sealed the entrance, and created her own endlessly shifting world.

Arthurian Wales

She had lost much of her sense of time with her immortality, so she did not know that it was nearly 5,000 years later that she left her home and went to see what had happened in Sumer. Confused by the many new developments and recognizing nothing, she decided to go and see the rest of the world. She set on a long, winding path that eventually led her to the tip of what is now France, where she stowed away on a boat heading to Wales, where she stayed. While there, she protected the people from the incoming Saxons, though she never revealed her ability. When asked fro her name she found that she could not remember it, so said Nergalit. Confused, they simply settled with Ner, or N. A couple of years into her stay she found a small, orphaned, boy whom she named Artos, or bear. She raised Artos to become a leader of a village, but otherwise did her line of work, keeping the invaders at bay. However, she feels little attachment to Artos or the village anymore, so she finds a bard named Merlin to watch over him, gives Artos a sword, and leaves, going to live in a small, hard to find valley nestled in northern Wales. She shares this valley with an oracle who wanders about the tops of the mountains.

Victorian London

N rarely ever talked to the oracle, so she was quite surprised when it showed up outside the house she'd built, gave her a horse and a marked map, as well as a pouch of coins and a dress in a style she's never seen before, but she followed the clear instructions. She rode for about a week, before she reached the city of London. Once there she was adopted into high society by a girl named Myra, who christened her Neriah, or Ner. From Myra she met and befriended two girls named Solis and Adelaide. She was closest to Solis as Solis was able to teach her English, but she fell in love with Myra, and Adelaide with her. Adelaide realized this and made a deal with a demon that allowed her to take the appearance of anyone she killed, so she killed Myra and took her face. Solis saw and, in a panic, called for N to come, as she did. N came and easily defeated Adelaide, but in doing so was forced to reveal her abilities. Solis revealed that she knew for some time, and the two decide to return to the hidden valley.

Recent History

Solis accidentally became immortal only a few months into her stay by asking a favor of the oracle, but in doing so also changed much of her demeanor, so she lived up where the oracle once did and rarely interacted with N anymore. The duo had been living as such for over a century when a child looking no older than 14 stumbled into the valley, looking rather worse for wear. The kid’s name was Wren and he had recently escaped from his emotionally and physically abusive parents. N and Solis automatically took him in and raised him to become a tailor, like N had. Two years later, all three were out together when large chunks of what seemed to be an overwhelmingly wealthy, but empty, city started falling from the sky, threatening to harm the land and the people on it. All is safe, however, due to N’s ability to destroy the objects before they hit the ground. She was about to be rid of the final piece when she realized it was not a piece, but a person, who turned out to be a giant named Mazăre who had destroyed their city to get away from the dystopian dictatorship they were being set up to lead. N and Mazăre fell in love and eventually started dating. N, Solis, Wren, and Mazăre lived in the valley for another year before heading out to explore the world yet again.
